There was a gigantic leap in Tidy Towns Competition with total 287 points (275 last year, 250 points in 2010). This is a huge achievement considering small number of volunteers who turn out. We were particularly praised for community involvement and planning (+3), being rewarded for the door-to-door enquiries made with a large number of householders. This was seen by the Adjudicator as a great way of connecting with our community.

Newcastle Residents Association December 2015
New Pathways
Residents may be surprised at the recent activity in the green area, adjacent to the tennis courts and playground. This has come about as a result of Newcastle receiving a grant from the Council for new pathways, and the upgrading of existing pathways, to facilitate access and wider usage of the area for recreation. The work will be completed before year end. The Association is also working closely with the Council to ensure other issues relating to the infrastructure of the village are addressed. Should you have any views on this please pass them on.
Tidy Towns.
Newcastle scored better than ever in the Tidy Towns competition in 2015. Overall we came fourth out of twenty six entries for Co Wicklow. Great credit to our volunteers and, in particular to Ian Carstairs. See detailed results on our website.
Walkways
We have had positive discussion with landowners on the development of a Historic Walkway from the village, through Church Lane, returning to the Community Centre. With the help of the National Trails office we hope to access funding from the new Leader Programme to address needs relating to fencing, signage and the upgrading of existing stiles.
